I joke that will be the tile of my work memoir, but it's a pretty good philosophy for life, too.
I am or have been a writer, a father, a partner, a dog dad, a swimmer, a film producer, a fisherman, a skier, a football fan, a wrestler, a traveller, a hiker, an adventurer, and a lot of other stuff (not necessarily in that order).
Which matters because my life experience is both rich and broad and my horizons are wide.
I taught journalism at the University of Montana for 12 years.
Which matters because it taught me how to manage young writers, how to coach them without denting their spirits and how to coax them to go further than they knew they could.
I was a fly-fishing guide in Montana and the South Pacific.
Which matters because it taught me how to manage the expectations of people who were very used to getting exactly what they wanted.
I was born in New York City, lived in Texas and Maryland as a small child, grew up in Ohio, went to college in Pennsylvania, lived in Hilton Head, SC, and Newport, RI, before moving to Missoula, Montana, for grad school, where I have stayed, save for a multi-year dual residency in Montana and New York.
